Earlier in the year, the entire exterior of the Splash Center received a fresh coat of paint. The Center also now sports a new Splash sign, featuring our new logo and tag line. The only painting that still needs to be done is to paint the two columns at the front of the building. Each column will have a snake spiraling up it! Check out this short video to see it all change and read on below for more details and photos.

We even refreshed our parking lot K-rails by giving them a fresh coat of white paint, creating a canvas for over 30 kids to paint their favorite vernal pool-focused critter or scene. We didn’t stop there, though!…

In April, a large mural was completed and installed on the front of the Splash Center. This mural shows kids engaged in vernal pool discovery and exploration.

Then, in May, a huge and amazing mural was completed and installed on the back exterior wall of the Splash Center! This back wall mural features many of the amazing plants and animals found around the vernal pools in and around the Illa M. Collin Conservation Preserve. These are some of the plants and animals that students learn about when they study our Investigating Vernal Pools curriculum.
Now, when students visit Splash on their class field trip, they can enjoy seeing the things they studied adorning the Splash Center! The murals were painted by renowned artist Sabrina Abbott of Perceptionist Art. Sabrina’s vibrant colors and attention to detail in these murals immerse viewers into the vernal pool experience! After their field trip, students often have their lunch at our picnic tables behind the Splash Center. They will love studying the new mural and finding the critters and plants that they studied and on which they became the class expert…”their” critters and plants! Sabrina created these murals using an ecofriendly paint by Airlite. Unlike regular paint, Airlite paint claims to purify the air by neutralizing pollutants and harmful chemicals. One hundred square meters painted with Airlite has the same purifying effect as 100 square meters of mature trees. Here at Splash, we’re always looking for innovative ways to make a positive impact on the environment, and often that innovation comes at a premium. We feel paying this premium is worth it, and it will be an investment in the community we serve.
