Bringing Waste Education To The Classroom!

Splash is known for delivering top-quality environmental education programming and connecting kids with nature.  Republic Services is known for providing top-quality, sustainable recycling and waste solutions.

So, Splash is excited to be partnering with Republic Services to offer FREE “Trash Talk” presentations to help 3rd-6th graders learn about the 4 Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Rot!  Trash Talk helps students become experts on how to properly sort items that are being discarded, and they’ll learn how those decisions can protect the environment!

This interactive, multimedia presentation takes 60 minutes, with plenty of time for questions and discussion.  We share some slides and videos with the class, and we even play a fun, hands-on trash sorting game with the students.  The students get some goodies to take home, too!

Program Highlights
  • These are engaging and educational classroom presentations, focusing on reducing the waste that goes into our landfills!
  • The content of these presentations aligns with many California Common Core Standards and Next Generation Science Standards!
  • Students learn about the waste stream, assess the impact of human activities on wildlife and the environment, and examine waste management practices!
  • Trash Talk presentations empower students to make simple changes at home and in school to promote sustainability and benefit both the environment and their local communities!

Testimonials

Our presenter was FANTASTIC, and I hope she’s the one who returns to my classroom next year to present to my students!  She was engaging, knowledgeable and professional as she delivered the content to my students.  FIVE STARS!  It was a great combination of direct instruction, video and hands-on activity.  Loved it!

Splash’s “Trash Talk” was a fabulous presentation!  My fifth graders were highly engaged and truly understand the importance of the 4 R’s.  It’s important to teach these concepts to kids so they can spread the word to the adults in their life and help make the world a better place.  Our presenter was awesome!  We loved his energy and enthusiasm.  He moved around the room a lot and called on different kids to share their ideas.  He made the program AMAZING!!  Thank you, Splash!

Susan Mifsud, Foulks Ranch Elem., EGUSD-Trash Talk

The lesson was fun, entertaining, and engaging!  It really kept the students’ interests in mind as it was being developed, and our presenter was amazing!  Her energy and enthusiasm set the tone for the learning experience!

Jaime Vazquez, Stone Lake Elem., EGUSD-Trash Talk

It was fabulous!  Teaching this generation the value of reducing, reusing, rotting, recycling, and properly sorting items is important.  They need to see that, though they are young, that they can help make the Earth a better, cleaner, greener place!  Students can be ambassadors of change when educated and then encouraged and empowered to do so!  I am grateful to those who created and support this program!
