As Sacramento Splash marks five years of growth and transformation under the leadership of CEO Mackenzie Wieser, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the journey and the milestones that have shaped the organization’s future. Mackenzie joined Splash just before the world changed in 2020 (Oct 2019), and her ability to navigate the challenges of the pandemic, all while expanding programming and increasing funding, speaks to her unwavering dedication and visionary leadership.

Mackenzie’s leadership has been nothing short of remarkable for long-time supporters like Maxine and David Clark of the David and Maxine Clark Family Fund. “Mackenzie has brought a fresh, dynamic energy to Sacramento Splash, and her passion for environmental education shines through in everything she does,” says Maxine Clark. “Her ability to fundraise and inspire others to support this cause is truly admirable. We proudly stand alongside Sacramento Splash, knowing Mackenzie drives its continued success.”
The Clarks, who have been instrumental in sustaining Splash through their ongoing commitment to connecting children with environmental education, recognize that Mackenzie’s impact extends beyond day-to-day operations. She has breathed new life into the organization, ensuring that future generations will continue to benefit from the hands-on learning and exploration that Splash provides.
Mackenzie’s commitment to Splash has been evident in both big and small ways. Meghan Amos, Investigating Vernal Pools Program Manager & Critter Keeper, has worked under Mackenzie’s leadership and has seen firsthand the depth of her dedication. “Without Mackenzie taking a chance on us, we wouldn’t still be here today,” Meghan reflects. “She’s expanded our programming, increased funding, and truly changed the future of this nonprofit. During challenging times, she’s shown incredible compassion and patience, supported staff through illness, and always stepped up when needed. Whether brainstorming new ideas or picking up trash to ensure our field trips are safe, Mackenzie leads with grit and determination.”
Meghan’s words echo the sentiments of many who have worked alongside Mackenzie. Her ability to embrace challenges, innovate, and foster a supportive environment for both staff and students has helped Splash evolve into the thriving organization it is today.

For Eva Butler, the founder of Sacramento Splash, Mackenzie’s role in the organization’s success over the last five years is undeniable. Eva, who laid the foundation for Splash’s unique culture, fondly refers to it as having a “magic sauce” that has drawn in the right people at the right time. “I truly believe Splash wouldn’t have persisted these last five years without Mackenzie,” Eva shares. “She recognized opportunities when they seemed impossible, and her leadership kept the organization moving forward. The people of Splash have always thought of themselves as a family, and it’s that collective drive, alongside Mackenzie’s determination, that has carried Splash through every challenge.”
Eva’s reflections highlight how Mackenzie has not only built upon the strong foundation already in place but also strengthened the sense of community that makes Splash so unique. Under Mackenzie’s leadership, Splash has continued to serve as a vital resource for environmental education, offering students the chance to connect with nature and explore the world around them.
As we celebrate Mackenzie Wieser’s five years of leadership, it’s clear that Sacramento Splash is positioned for even greater success in the years to come. Her vision, determination, and ability to unite people have made an indelible mark on the organization and its mission. With Mackenzie at the helm, we look forward to seeing Splash continue to inspire and educate the next generation of environmental stewards.
