Youth Environmental Leadership Camp (YELC) | Applications Now Open

Applications are now open for Sacramento Splash’s Youth Environmental Leadership Camp (YELC), a transformative, hands-on learning experience designed to educate, empower, and inspire the next generation of environmental leaders.

Through YELC, students will explore critical environmental topics, including climate change and air quality, energy, water systems, food waste and consumption, land use, and local habitats. Each field trip is paired with guest speakers and immersive field experiences, allowing students to connect learning to real-world impact while enjoying fun and laughter over the summer. We take field trips every day and often visit more than one location.

In addition to scientific and environmental education, students will learn firsthand about careers in Science and Sustainability from real-life scientists on each of our field trips during the week. Campers will come home each day ready to share their experiences and what they learned. You will be surprised by how much your child learns in just one week.

YELC also emphasizes leadership development, teamwork, and connection to nature, giving students the tools to think critically, collaborate confidently, and develop a lasting sense of environmental stewardship.

Please visit our website to learn more about the program details, session dates, and application requirements. The camp is completely free to campers, thanks to the generosity of our partners, the City of Rancho Cordova Community Enhancement Fund, and the Sacramento Area Sewer District, among others. We also have 18 business partners who generously donate their time and talents to make the camp possible.

We promise this will be a lasting memory for your rising 6th- or 7th-grader! The ability to register your child for this program is short, so we suggest that if you have a 6th grader who’s interested, sign them up, in case they don’t get in this summer, there’s always next year!

Things to Note:

  • This is a full weekday camp: 8:30 am-5:30 pm M-F (15 campers per week).
  • There are 4 weeks of camp, allowing 60 campers to paticipate!
  • Children arrive highly nervous and intimidated, but are very sad to leave on Friday.
  • This will fill up quickly, so APPLY NOW and volunteer at an event to earn your preference point for selection!
  • No need to wait to apply–we will close the application process as soon as we have enough campers.
