Splash Has a New Board President – NIGEL MOORE

Splash operates our environmental education programming under the guidance of our Board of Trustees, which provides behind-the-scenes direction and oversight to keep the organization mission-focused and always moving forward.  You’ve met some of our dedicated board members who have been featured in prior newsletters.

At their most recent meeting on November 22, the board, currently consisting of 8 trustees, elected a new executive committee.  Our new board president will be Nigel Moore, vice president will be Khaim Morton, Obadiah Bartholomy will serve as secretary, and Eugene Lee will be our new treasurer.  Thank you to all our energetic board members, who volunteer their time to keep Splash moving in the right direction!

Nigel Moore will be filling the position of board president, which is being vacated by Melanie Okoro, who served in that capacity over the last year.  Stay tuned for a spotlight article about Melanie in the next issue of this newsletter!

Nigel brings an international flair to the Splash Board of Trustees, being born and raised in Maidenhead, England, a town 50 miles west of London, along the river Thames.  He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering, an Executive MBA in Marketing, and he studied Economics at Oxford University.  He also lived in southern Sweden while working as Chief Mechanical Engineer for a worldwide food equipment company called Alfa Laval.  There he launched a systematic approach to stringing food processing components into a complete processing system.

According to Nigel, “In 1981, I was transferred to the U.S. headquarters of the company in New Jersey on a 3-year assignment to start an engineering group to design food processing plants.  Three years turned into a permanent stay here in the U.S.  I migrated to Washington state for work, and there I met my wife, Julia.  We lived in WA for 25 years before moving to Rancho Murieta, near Sacramento, in 2014 to be closer to our grandkids and to get out of the rain.  We love living in the Rancho Murieta area, with its lakes, streams, and wildlife.”

Nigel is currently the President & CEO of TW Strategies, LLC, a management consulting company that helps companies develop and execute strategies to improve operations and profitability.  Throughout his 35+ year career, Nigel has managed 10 companies and Splash is incredibly fortunate to have Nigel and his management experience on our board!

Nigel remarks, “I first heard about Sacramento Splash through my daughter, Katie McCleary, who was a Splash board member for several years.  I was very intrigued with the program and, three years ago, Katie introduced me to Mackenzie Wieser, the new CEO of Splash.  Mackenzie promptly recruited me to join the board in September of 2019.” Within two short months, Nigel was asked to fill the vacant position of board treasurer.  During his two-year tenure as Treasurer, he revamped the accounting practices to better reflect program costs, identified accounting gaps, and recommended new growth opportunities.

Nigel shares, “I joined the board of Sacramento Splash because the future of the environment will soon be in the custodial hands of our children and our childrens’ children.  Fostering their education, understanding, and stewardship of nature will broaden their curiosity and ability to grow up as adults that care for and protect our delicate environment.  Splash does all that and more!”

Nigel concludes, “Splash is in great hands with Mackenzie Wieser as CEO!  Her unique perspective and can-do attitude make the life of the board president so much easier, fun, and rewarding!  I look forward to my two-year term as president, working with my fellow trustees to develop new ideas, programs, and serving our region’s youth, coached by our great team of Splash employees!”
