Join Splash naturalists for a morning in nature, as we explore the habitats of Mather Lake Regional Park, near Sacramento, on this easy 1-mile nature walk! This special hike will be a “bioblitz” to find and identify as many species of plants and animals as we can!
We’ll be using the iNaturalist app to document our observations, adding to a robust set of data which conservation leaders can then use to better understand how to protect the living things in our beautiful state. You don’t have to be an expert, or even know how to use iNaturalist, because this event will be tailored to the experience levels of the participants. So, grab your camera or phone and join our naturalists for this fun citizen science project!

Participating is easy!
1. Before September 7th, download the iNaturalist app on your phone and set up your account.
2. Click on “Projects” and join “Sacramento Splash Biodiversity Day Bioblitz 2024”
3. Join us on our walk and we’ll make our observations!
This event is free; however, Mather Lake Regional Park requires a $7.00 fee to park, unless you have an annual Sacramento County Regional Parks pass. We will meet at 9:00am at the covered picnic pavilion near the parking fee payment kiosk. We look forward to seeing you there!
Mather Lake Regional Park is located at 4051 Zinfandel Dr., Rancho Cordova, CA 95655.
Biodiversity Week runs from September 7 – 15, to celebrate our state’s unique biodiversity and encourage actions to protect it. There will be community events throughout the state, hosted by state and federal agencies, non-profit organizations, museums, zoos, and educational institutions to invite the public to participate in biodiversity-oriented activities.
