Spotlight Splash’s New Director of Development
Gina Fleming, the newest Director of Development at Sacramento Splash, is a professional with a wealth of experience and a deep passion for education. Her journey to this role is marked by resilience, purpose, and a profound belief in making a positive impact. She is committed to leaving things better than she found them, a quality evident in the work she’s already begun to champion.
At Sacramento Splash, Gina has found a new avenue to make a difference. Her role allows her to share stories about students who have experienced something with Splash that they might not have otherwise. Whether it’s a student’s first field trip in 5th grade or the joy of tasting a cherry tomato for the first time, Gina’s work is about creating and sustaining relationships with those eager to support these transformative experiences.

Gina’s connection to Sacramento Splash was a natural one. “Mackenzie and I worked together about 15 years ago, and we’ve continued to follow each other’s journeys,” she explains. “I was so impressed by the work at Splash and the amazing mission that I asked how I could be a part of it. And here I am!“
As the Director of Development, Gina fills her days with making introductions, conducting program research, visiting sites, and reaching out to the community. In just five weeks, she’s already immersed herself in the nonprofit world, eager to share Splash’s story with a broader audience. This year, her primary goal is to build—knowledge, relationships, and awareness for Sacramento Splash’s impactful programs, particularly Project AWE at the Historic Nicolaus Dairy.
Project AWE, a popular program since its inception two years ago, is a focal point of Gina’s efforts. She notes that the program is ‘sold out until Spring of 2025,’ emphasizing its success. However, sustaining this $300k program requires funding, and Gina is dedicated to securing it. She believes the funding will give kids the experience they deserve in nature, learning about circular economy thinking, organic farming, waste management, and more.
Looking ahead, Gina is committed to ensuring every student can experience the outdoors and learn about the natural world. “Reaching every child is our goal,” she emphasizes. “Getting every child out in nature would fill my heart because they are our future. With limited open space, they’re the ones who will benefit from it and protect it.”
As Gina continues to build relationships and expand Sacramento Splash’s reach, her vision is clear: to create a lasting impact on the students and community she serves. “I’ve been told we’re the best-kept secret, but now it’s time to share it with the world. It’s a gift to all who support Splash already, and I can’t wait to see how we grow together.”
