Sacramento Splash is thrilled to announce a new, fee-based field trip opportunity at Kassis for 4th and 5th-grade students from private and charter schools in Sacramento, El Dorado, and Placer counties. This immersive outdoor learning experience will connect young learners with the unique and delicate ecosystem of vernal pools, fostering a deep appreciation for the environment and encouraging stewardship in the next generation.
Inspired by the success of the Investigating Vernal Pools program, this field trip provides students with a hands-on experience that brings classroom science into the natural world. Vernal pools and seasonal wetlands supporting rare plants and animals offer a glimpse into the intricate balance of life in these rain-fed habitats. Through guided exploration, students will gain a first-hand understanding of how ecosystems work together, building a foundation of respect for our environment.
“As Board President of Sacramento Splash, I’ve seen the wonder and curiosity that fills a child’s eyes when they discover the hidden world of vernal pools,” said Nigel Moore. “These experiences remind us of the importance of nurturing young minds and encouraging their understanding and stewardship of the environment.”
Mackenzie Wieser, CEO of Sacramento Splash, added, “We are excited to launch this pilot field trip at Kassis, providing students with a unique opportunity to explore, ask questions, and connect with nature in a way that’s both educational and unforgettable. Programs like this help us foster a new generation of environmental stewards who appreciate and protect these fragile ecosystems.”
