At Sacramento Splash, we’re fortunate to have an incredible community of volunteers who step up to support our mission of connecting kids with nature. Over the past two months, two amazing groups of volunteers came together to tackle much-needed yard work at the Splash Center, making our outdoor learning space safer and more welcoming for students.
November: The Mighty Green Warriors Get to Work

In November, dedicated volunteers Ed, Floyd, Cynthia, Rob, Meghan, Bob, Ryan, and Jillian rolled up their sleeves and got to work. This small but mighty group, affectionately dubbed the “Mighty Green Warriors” by our Director of Operations, Becky Milstrey, made significant progress on critical trimming and clearing projects.
“We couldn’t do this without you fabulous people volunteering your time to help Splash!” Becky shared. “This small group of mighty green warriors has done a lot!”
Their hard work completed nearly all the essential trimming, and about 10% of the heavy removal tasks were tackled—a crucial first step in preparing our site for the upcoming field trip season.

December 13: SMUD Cares Team Steps In
Building on the progress from November, the SMUD Cares team arrived on December 13 with energy and determination. In just one hour, this incredible group of volunteers transformed our outdoor space by finishing major yard work that would have taken our small team countless hours to complete.
“We were blown away by how quickly and efficiently the SMUD Cares team worked,” shared Mackenzie Wieser, CEO of Sacramento Splash. “These guys and gals transformed our site within an hour! It truly blew my mind.”
The day wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of Beneficial State Bank, which sponsored the volunteer day, and Republic Services, which provided a much-needed waste bin for hauling away debris.
