On December 4, 2024, we welcomed a group of passionate educators for an unforgettable evening exploring the magic of vernal pools. Our Investigating Vernal Pools Teacher Workshop was more than another training session. It was about sparking curiosity, building connections, and empowering teachers to bring the wonders of nature into their classrooms.

We host “New Teacher Training” sessions for educators joining our Investigating Vernal Pools program every year. Knowing how busy teachers are, we offer this training twice to accommodate their schedules. Each session is a 4-hour deep dive into the 13 lessons of our 25-year program. We share tips, tricks, and hands-on activities that show how fun and science can come together in powerful ways.
This workshop was a fantastic opportunity not only to learn but also to forge meaningful connections. Teachers connected over creating critter guides, building food webs, and learning how to grow fairy shrimp. From watershed connections to origami books, each activity is designed to make environmental education engaging and impactful. By the end of the evening, our newest teachers were equipped and excited, ready to lead their students through lessons and prepare for their scheduled field trips from January to May 2025.
We’re thrilled to welcome over 105 teachers into our longest-running program this year! As they bring these lessons to their classrooms, they’re not only teaching science. They’re inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards.
To all the educators who joined us, thank you for your passion, dedication, and belief in the power of curiosity. Together, we’re helping kids discover the magic of vernal pools and their role in protecting our planet. We can’t wait to see the impact you’ll make!
