Sacramento Splash is pleased to announce the receipt of a $250,000 grant awarded by the California Natural Resources Agency, Youth Community Access Grant. This investment represents a significant step toward the organization’s mission to provide hands-on environmental education experiences for students and educators across the region.
The grant is intended to support access for underserved youth to outdoor educational experiences in nature. This is a three-year funding opportunity for Splash to approximately fill our funding gap for the Project AWE program. Further strengthening Sacramento Splash’s ability to deliver high-quality educational programming to those who need access the most.
This funding will help expand our reach to schools that lack the funds to cover transportation for our field trips. We will cover bus costs and field trip fees for schools that would not otherwise be able to take a field trip. This will expand access to learning experiences focused on environmental literacy, leadership development, and real-world engagement with topics such as where our food comes from, the parts of a flower, the importance of pollinators, hydroponic and organic gardening, and the resources that go into producing our food.
“We are grateful for this investment in our work,” said Mackenzie Wieser, CEO of Sacramento Splash. “This grant allows us to continue serving students, educators, and communities that are often overlooked. This is a three-year award, so over the next three years of working with the State Natural Resources Agency, we will be able to share our programs with many more like-minded people, enabling us to seek additional sustainable funding to support this program. Sacramento Splash remains committed to transparency and responsible stewardship of resources. This grant will directly support students and educators and drive long-term community impact through thoughtful program design and expanded learning opportunities.”
