Growing up in Maryland, Garrett spent summers canoeing in marshes and crabbing. His love for the outdoors led him down a path as an outdoor/environmental educator and mountain guide for over two decades. In 2011 Garrett and his wife hiked the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mexico border to the Canadian Border, over 2,750 miles! During their hike, they fell in love with California.
Moving to the Sacramento Region in 2017 felt natural, with its rivers, wetlands, and proximity to the mountains. In 2020, Garrett leaned into his love for the environment and pursued a Master’s degree in Resilient and Sustainable Communities. After completing his Master’s, Garrett has been working in the environmental and community action space for several years. As a father of two boys, he sees the disconnect between nature in schools and children firsthand. Garrett’s oldest son participated in Splash’s inaugural Youth Environmental Leadership Camp (YELC 2022) and it was then that he knew he was interested in furthering Splash’s mission. Garrett was delighted when the opportunity came to join Splash’ with its mission’s efforts to connect kids with nature!
Garrett spends his weekends with his family and dog, biking, climbing, hiking, paddling, and everything in between. When not spending time outdoors, you can find him scheming his next adventure or training at his local gym.
